Summer 2005: Italy

Selected photos from our
Summer 2005 Europe trip
Part II: Italy

One of my favorite places in all of Rome. I chose cinnamon gelato every time. It was yummy. Dave tried several different flavors.

There were quite a few of these signs detailing appropriate and inappropriate clothing choices for visiting St. Peter's. We chose well.

Standing next to the holy water well. We were rather startled to see people filling up bottles from here to take home as souvenirs. We thought it a bit odd. Then we noticed that the bottles were available in the gift shop. That seemed even stranger.

One of the popes. There are several on display.

Climbing to the top of the cupola

View of the Piazza San Pietro from the tippy top of the cupola of the Basilica di San Pietro.

I was waiting for Dave to finish taking pictures in the piazza and saw this little girl chasing the pigeons. Dave smiled at her as he passed by and tried to shoo the pigeons towards her. She fell in love (with Dave, not the pigeons). He came and sat by me, and she came and sat about two steps down, glancing coyly at him over her shoulder every few minutes. Too cute.

I liked taking pictures of arches in Rome. These are inside the Colosseum.

Jo in the Colosseum.

Jo AND Dave in the Colosseum. We would have liked more of the Colosseum in the picture, but the guy taking it didn't seem to really understand how to use my camera.

Taking a break while exploring Colle Palantino.

More arches.

My favorite tree in Rome.

Bridge over the Tiber River.

Fountain in the Piazza del Popolo

View of Rome from the Pincio (below us is the Piazza del Popolo)

The Spanish Steps. If you walked out of our hotel and looked down the street to your left, you could just barely see the monument at the top of the steps.

Here we are sitting on the Spanish Steps. I had my dad's walking stick with my camera attached to the top. Dave adjusted the angle of the camera, hit the timer and we both smiled. It took us several tries to get both our heads in the picture.

My favorite place in Rome.
The Trevi Fountain.
We visited every day we were there. Sometimes two or three times in a day.

Hanging out in front of the Trevi Fountain.

Throwing our coins in the Trevi Fountain to make sure we'll be visiting Rome again.

View from the balcony of our hotel room in Florence. It was really cool when all the church bells began ringing. You could hear them from churches all over the city.

In front of Il Duomo.

Mercato di San Lorenzo. This was a fun place to walk through and browse. The stalls are removed every night. We probably should have tried to bargain more over the things we bought, but I didn't think of it at the time. I'm not used to that style of shopping.

On the train from Florence to Rome. (We flew in and out of Rome. So, we had to get back to Rome after visiting Florence.)
