It's Baaaaaaaack

That's right folks! Whether you have a weak stomach or extreme sympathy for Our Girl or just a general dislike for discussing bodily functions, it's The Blog Topic You Hoped Never To See Again: Julia's Toxic Poo!

Once again Julia has a horrible diaper rash and blisters on her behind. We think we know what's causing the blisters, though. Last night (about 30 minutes before bed) I had to change Julia's diaper and her little bottom was SO red I decided to slather her with a thick layer of Desitin. She immediately started SCREAMING! I wiped it off as fast as I could and put her diaper on, but she wouldn't stop her fussing. And it wasn't just a tired fussing, you could tell she was hurting. Dave ran a warm bath, added baking soda and we dumped her in. She played for about 20 minutes and seemed to be doing okay except for the fact that she wouldn't sit on her bottom. She tucked her legs underneath and sort of sat on her feet or else stayed busy crawling around. After the bath, as I was drying her off, David looked at her and said, "Is that water on her butt or blisters?" Her rear end was covered in little, clear blisters!

I'm not certain it's the Desitin causing it, but I switched back to Vasoline petroleum jelly as a diaper rash cream and she didn't start screaming. And I won't be using the Desitin again anytime soon. We go to her one year doctor appointment on Monday so I'll ask about it then. In the meantime, we'll be back on the evening baking soda baths for a while.

The hospital used the A & D ointment on the twins. It seems to work really well. We use the original and not the one with the zinc oxide. Hope she gets to feeling better really soon!
Love to all - Great Aunt Tracey :)

Thanks. Her bottom's looking better, but the blisters are still there. The baking soda baths seem to be helping. We'll have to look into getting some of the ointment you suggested.
