Tomatoes

Can dogs eat tomatoes? I think I remember that tomatoes are bad for them, but I can't remember where I read it or if it was even about dogs. The article might have been talking about something completely different.
I know about grapes and raisins (Thanks, Jenny!), but that's about the only human food I know of that I shouldn't give to Echo. Well, chicken bones, but ... duh!
She did just try to eat a clothespin. Not sure what that says about her dietary needs. More fiber?

I didn't know raisins and grapes were bad for dogs! Huh. I learned something new today. Not sure on tomatoes, but my rule of thumb is I don't give a dog anything I don't want to clean up in the form of puppie puke. That's how I learned not to feed my dog leftover Chinese food several years ago. Water chestnuts? Pretty dang gross.

Ok, now. That's just nasty! It's pretty gross when it's just water, no food. It spreads fast and far. *shudder*

Ok, If I ever set up a website of my own, or blogsite, or anything of the like I will make sure that I include a page of toxic substances for housepets. Some for dogs include, as stated earlier: Onions (VERY toxic), garlic, Rasins (VERY toxic), grapes (still toxic)-by the way, they dont know why but there is something in them that animals cant metabolize like people can. Right now i think they believe it is in the skin of the gape but I still wouldnt feed them skinless!- Same thing with chocolate- they cant metabolize a toxic component as we can- so they die. Of course, baking choc is the worst, followed by dark choc and semi-sweet morsels, then by normal milk choc. It is toxic based on the animals weight so the bigger your dog, the safer you are if they find your stash of hershey kisses, but beware if you own a chihuahua! Others include apple seeds (cyanide) but you need large quantities of them, and....I think that about covers the things you would find in the kitchen. Also caution against leaving our antifreeze (ethylene glycol) because it tastes sweet and dogs/cats just cant seem to get enough but it certainly sends them into renal failure quickly. And... keep them away from the rat poison of course. Other things that are toxic but moreso to cats are easter lillies and some house plants. That is all I can come up with for now. I have never heard the tomato toxicity thing. Oh one more piece of info. Dont ever think that your animals can take the same medications as humans. Many meds can be taken but again, something about dogs and cats....they just cant metabolize some of this stuff and it is really toxic. For example, never never never give a cat acetominophen (i cant spell by the way), and do not give cats or dogs aspirin without consulting a vet because one dose lasts them days vs. 6-8 hours like us. Etc, etc. Basically, call your vet..

I did know about chocolate ... just forgot to say it. Thanks for all the other info. I had no idea antifreeze tasted sweet.
