Ah, It's Nothin'

We've been gone awhile. Just from the blog. Not in real life. Sadly, I don't even have a bunch of pictures or great stories to explain why. Just life.

But here's a Julia Story that too funny not to write down:

At our family reunion, we went out to a restaurant with a group that included my Grandma Steele and my mom. As the waitress came around asking if anyone wanted coffee, Julia piped up that she'd like some. Being that grandmas are powerless to resist the cuteness of two-year-old girls asking for coffee, they had the waitress pour a tiny bit (decaf!) in a coffee cup and then added a lot of milk and told Julia she could have "coffee milk." And Julia slurped it down with many comments of "Yum! Coffee Nilk! Yummy, Tan! Coffee Nilk! Yummy, Gan-ma Steele! Coffee Nilk! Yummy, Mommy! Yummy, Daddy! Coffee Nilk!" Over and over and over as only an excited two-year-old can do.

After we came home from the reunion, whenever Gran or Grandma Steele or milk or coffee or Any Random Thing That Triggered Her Memory was mentioned, Julia asked for "Coffee Nilk?" And we would tell her, "When you go see Gran, then you can have more coffee milk." I even called my mom to warn her to be sure to have decaf coffee brewed and waiting because the second Julia steps out of our car at their house she's going to be asking for coffee milk.

We've been getting into letting Julia video chat with some family that have cameras hooked up to their computers. She's really enjoying it and starting to understand that it's not like watching TV, you can really interact with the people and get responses to your words and actions. Mom wanted to check in with us last week so we planned to chat once the kids woke up from their naps. Julia was up first and sitting in my computer chair while Mom and I got connected. The call went through and Mom popped up on the screen.

Julia's first words:


"Tan! I see Tan! I have Coffee Nilk now?!?"
