Julia loves to help in the kitchen. One Sunday afternoon we were making fancy grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. Julia wanted to help so we dragged her Kitchen Helper over to the counter and put her in charge of Cheese Placement on the sandwiches. The sandwich in front is one Dave and I thought was finished, but Julia decided it needed something more ... namely an extra cube of feta on top as well as a Yogurt Covered Raisin. We're going to try to get her on Food Network soon ...

Once she finished making our lunch, we made her take pictures. I'm really working to train her to take over all my responsibilities. Then I can finally get some good use out of our couch and catch up on my reading. So, in case you were wondering what Dax's foot looks like dangling down in front of me as I hold him ... well, wonder no more!

And Dax is learning things, too! He's teaching himself how to put on his sister's boot backwards and walk around in it. This lesson has been a painful one for Our Boy, but he really and truly seems determined to get it right! These lessons have all ended in tears (his), but he refuses to give in! He might be just a wee bit stubborn.

And just yesterday, since we went out to eat with friends after church and there was no cooking to do, Julia worked on a puzzle. She is excellent at getting pieces together even if they don't want to go very easily. But since this picture does not include sound, you can't hear her concerned "Oh NO!" about the mess this crocodile seems to have made of himself.

As for a few stories without pictures, allow me to tell these tales on my kiddos ...
1) As mentioned above, Dax is S.T.U.B.B.O.R.N. He has recently begun taking it so far that I'm thinking of adding his picture to any book that quotes the phrase "cut off your nose to spite your face." Let me tell you, this boy has that down! I will have his milk cup and a pancake in my hands to give to him. If I try to hand him one of them first, but he wants the other, he pitches a fit and refuses to take either!! He will scream in frustration and then use his particular gesture to signal his displeasure with me ... turning his head away and refusing to look at me (sometimes he'll go so far as to run to the other side of his room and turn his back on me) I try to explain that I don't really care if he drinks his milk or eats his pancake so getting mad at me doesn't really do anything but hurt him, but he seems to have a bit of trouble absorbing that lesson. He is constantly getting fed up with us and refusing to play with toys or eat or drink. (His stubborness also manifests itself in refusing to come when called, but that open act of defiance doesn't send me into a giggling fit, it just results in him getting punished.)
2) Julia is obsessed with watching TV. I try to go the middle of the road on this one. I enjoy the uninterrupted opportunities to Get Things Done while she watches, but I don't really like the trance she falls into whenever the television is turned on. She has several shows that she asks for multiple times on a daily basis: Toot & Puddle, Franklin, Miss Spider. (No, she doesn't watch all of them on a daily basis!) She has recently learned all the character names on Miss Spider and will randomly begin listing them off. It took me a while to realize she was doing this because I didn't know the name of her favorite character on the show (Wiggle) and between my lack of knowlege and her lack of enunciation, we were having real communication difficulties. Now, we know all the characters and can repeat them after her:
"Ligle" (Wiggle)
"Dwagon and Shwimmer" (Dragon & Shimmer)
"BOUNCE!" (Bounce)
"Cwurt" (Squirt)
"Pansy Drop!" (Snowdrop & Pansy)
3) Dax loves to give kisses! If you ask him for kisses or make kissy noises while holding him, he'll turn to you with his mouth WIDE OPEN and come in for the smootch! He'll smack you with his lips three times and then go back to whatever he was doing.
