Friday night we went out to eat at Cappellini's, an Italian restaurant near our house. I ordered a tomato/feta pizza and Dave had the eggplant parmesan. We went ahead and ordered Julia a hamburger off the kid's menu. What did she eat? The eggplant. She wouldn't touch the burger. Lesson learned: Stay away from the kid's menu.
Although, as a soapbox aside, wouldn't it be great if the kid's menu had quarter portions of items off the regular menu instead of a choice of hamburger, chicken fingers or mac n' cheese? Our waitress recommended the lasagna, but it wasn't on the kid's menu and I didn't see spending $10 on a meal that might just end up on the floor. Instead we ended up spending $3.50 on a meal that ended up on the floor.
In other food news, Julia had her first "TV dinner" on Saturday. Well, it wasn't frozen so I suppose it doesn't truly count as a TV dinner. We tried out the Gerber Lil Entrees. It seems like cheating to me, but the meals contain no preservatives and have less sodium than one of her hot dogs and about the same amount as one of her chick'n patties. The fat content is fairly low and each meal contains a serving of veggies. We've had the roughest time getting her to eat vegetables, but she ate three spoonfuls of the carrots that came with the Mashed Potatoes & Gravy with Roasted Chicken meal. Plus, this will hopefully help get a little variety in her lunch (which basically right now consists of either a hot dog or chick'n pattie, a quarter of an apple or pear, some goldfish and three cookies).
On the fruit and veggie front, I've ordered several of the different options available from Just Tomatoes. The snack bag size will hopefully give us enough for her (and us!) to try to see what we like before spending a lot of money. We have the carrots, peas, pineapple, mango, cherries, blueberries, bananas and pomegranate coming to our house soon. I'm excited about these because it will also add a bit of variety in the snack options available. Right now, we switch pretty evenly between Puffs and Cheerios and goldfish.
And that is probably more information about Julia's eating habits than you needed to know! :)
