I said, "SING!"

Dave and I traveled to Athens, TN to watch/participate in a shape note/Old Harp singing with our friend Jeremy. We had been to one before with Jeremy here in Knoxville, but we just sat next to him and listened. This time we arrived before he did and were told, "There is no 'just listening' at a singing!" So, we picked our spots, borrowed a book and did our best. Dave sat in the bass area and I sang alto. Well, I sat in the alto area. I didn't really sing. I kept getting confused and singing the lead part. I messed up the person sitting next to me several times.
Afterwards, we drove to Jeremy's mom and dad's house on Starr Mountain in Etowah, TN for dinner. Bev and Richard would have drooled over this house. His parents bought 73 acres of land on the mountain, hauled a three-bedroom log cabin up there and then added on several bedrooms and a kitchen. It's amazing. When we arrived, we could smell the food cooking in the Crock-Pot. I thought at first it was chili. That worried me since 1) I didn't really feel like eating beef after riding in the car on windy roads and 2) most people put beans in chili. I greatly dislike beans. However, it wasn't chili ... it was 15 bean soup. I tried. I ate about twenty spoonfuls and then just stuffed myself with the homemade wheat rolls. We had a great time talking with Jeremy's dad and walking around the property. (They rent out a restored farm house on their property.)
Plus, on the way home we found an A&W drive-in along Highway 411 in Madisonville, TN. Yummy.
